"I won't hurt you because it would make Alice sad. But I will stop you from hurting her."

Some fanart of Boris Airay from Heart no Kuni no Alice (a.k.a. Alice in the Country of Hearts), done in some fun colour pencil. All of the residents of Wonderland in this serious dress pretty flamboyantly, but it's in a fun and interesting way, and their designs really grew on me. I also liked how the original versions of the early games had some super bright colours. It was obnoxious without being annoying, if that makes sense. It just fit well with the quirky, though extremely morbid, world.

When I draw these characters, I want to keep that original brightness that the new artist really hasn't (her colouring is more standard anime fare). I just thing that vibrancy is just more... Wonderland, y'know? Boris' design attracted me first thanks to the super loud pink look that gave me flashbacks to middle school. You can still see some of the red drafting lines since I don't erase before I start colouring.

-Red Mechanical Pencil (0.5)

      The power of Prismacolors!

Its so vivid and bright and just gorgeous! Maybe I should invest in some fancy color pencils instead of crayola...

Well Prismacolours are seriously the best (but most expensive), just be sure to take care of them. What makes them so vivid and blend so well is because what holds the colour together is wax. In cheap brands like Craoyla they use clay instead, which as you can probably figure doesn't have the nice smooth finish and colour transition when you do your final blending layer. But wax is weaker, so don't let them bang around in a box or hit the floor or you might get that internal breakage (y'know when you sharpen something but then it breaks off? Yeah, that).

They do have a special "Scholar" line that's cheaper and a little stronger, good for students and beginners. Though honestly when using the normal ones a simple pack of your major colours is sufficient for most things if you know how to work 'em.

Haha yeah, I also have some Derwent pencils, and a few Prismacolours, but I'm used to Crayola. They're okay if you know how to use them, but I would love to have some nicer ones.
Also, I had no idea that the reason why my pencils were always breaking was because I was banging them around too much. I'm glad to know that! That will save me some pencils in the future :)

Rumor has it you can put them in a hot sunny spot in the summer to help melt the wax inside and mend the core. Haven't tried it myself, but it makes sense. (・ェ-)
