Short Biography:

This is/will be less of a character bio and probably more of a species bio in the end because I can really describe her people more so than her as an individual~

Iolain's people dwell in the deep oceans~ They are air-breathers, rather than creatures with gills~ Their biology is not quite mammalian, but not quite that of a squid's, either~ They have tentacles framing their faces as well as hair~ This is important for their species to survive underwater~ The hair atop their heads will grow to be as long as the tentacles that frame their faces~ They are also covered with a short, thick protective coat of fur, much like that of an Planet Earth Seal~ Lying just below the hair's tips is a thin layer of oil secreted by Iolain and her people~ The tiny hairs lay close to the skin and are translucent~ These hairs actually draw in and collect oxygen molecules, pulling them under the layer of oil and trapping it, allowing Iolain's species to essentially breathe under water~ Living in the vast deeps, they have very strong, yet surprisingly flexible bones, allowing them to withstand the extreme pressures the ocean depths put upon them~ They communicate through clicks whistles, whale-song [don't know what else to call it, sorry], and bio-luminescence patterns they flash upon their skin [not shown, sorry sketch] which show through the translucent hairs~ There is very little light in the depths so their eyes are equipped to detect even the faintest of it, and their eyes look remarkably similar to those of planet Earth's Mantis Shrimp~

Though living in the depths, there is a vast network of underwater caves; many of which hold large pockets of air produced presumably by the planet's volcanic activity~ It is in these caves and among these pockets of air that her species make their dwellings~ This is but one of a dual species in this world~ This one, and one that has evolved just a bit further and does not venture out of the water as much if at all~ Iolain is female, however their people are quite androgynous, and males of the same species look amazingly similar~ They probably don't need clothes, either, but hey, kids might be watching~ ^^
