Wild Ride

Commission for Timmie

Timmie is a Skunk with a lack of caution, who loves spending his time riding wild beasts.

This took way to long. I had so many set backs in the process of painting this one. I had to redo the background twice, and redo the wolf once. All my fault. Early in the painting I got “Stuck”. I had not completely thought the composition out, and it took me several days to figure out what I was doing. In spite of the challenges, I am pleased with the out come.

Media: Acrylic on Masonite
Size: 11" x 14"
Date: 2015

    Jaunty angle: check
    fun expressions: check
    Ferocious wolf: check
It's got a lot going for it, but aside from the scarf and the bit of sky, the colors are a bit drab - maybe that's the scanner (scanners do some terrible things to colors).
Also, aside from the jaunty angle, the composition is kinda dull: everything seems to be following the same parallel diagonal lines - the figures are looking in the same direction, the clouds, the tree line, the skunk's arm and tail - all of them read from the lower left corner to the upper right. The torso of the wolf and skunk break this up a little for a giant X shape but... I don't know, maybe I'm just being overly critical today.
This is a fun painting and I love the little buttercups. I really admire your realism and your skills.

Yea the scanner did de-saturate the painting a bit, especially the greens. As for the composition, I see what you are saying but the angle of the wolf/skunks body is the counter line to the horizon and the arm.

Otherwise, I am not sure what to say. I am pleased with the outcome, and the customer (the one who really matters) thinks its Great.

At least you think its fun. [Grin]

I think I'm just being a grump-a-potamus today. Pay no attention to the bat inside the tea cup! Carry on!

So, I just reread my reply to you. I apologize for what could be construed as a "Terse" response. I did not mean as such. Your commentary is appreciated, even if it was grump-a-potamus. [Wink]

I read it as all shrugs, not so much as terse.
You're awesome. Just throwing that out there.

You're awesome for saying so! [Wink]
