Art Exercise Study, Day 7; Hair of the Dog:
(daily art exercise mentioned and first 3 here: http://stickypawz.livejournal.com/185027.html),

Ah, breakfast the day after... Actually I hate beer, I am a whiskey type... I like my booze like I like my “Rulers”, Hard and Straight! Chuckles

Anyways, I had considerable trouble with this one. I got really hung up on the bottle at the beginning, I got obsessed with the shape, and rendering it accurately. I spent as much time on that as I did on the rest of the painting. In the end it mattered little, as the roughness of the layered brush strokes destroyed my straight edges. Then I had numerous other issues. What was suppose to be a 30 min exercise, turned into a hours long study/still-life. Oh well Shrug

Artist note:
This is also a self portrait... Look closely at the center of the bottle, you can make out the light reflecting of the side of my head, my arm, and the canvas. Above which is the lamp casting light on my subject, and to the left the bright sky, and backyard of my studio window. Grin

This was done with the same 6 color palette I have been using, Acrylic on 8” x 10” Gessoed Masonite.

Bonus Points to those who can name the brand of beer that is in the painting...
