The constellation Crux, the Southern Cross, is the famous jewel of the southern sky and often the starting point for new observers looking to learn the stars in the southern hemisphere. In their search for the Crux, they may be tricked by the "False Cross", a group of stars in the constellations Carina and Vela that resemble the Crux.

Over nearby, one may find the Diamond Cross, named for its diamond like appearance. The Crux, being the smallest of the three crosses, is most easily looked over by mistake in favor of the other two.
