Giraffe Mouth and Tongue Study by Rotsuoy

Giraffe Mouth and Tongue Study

Rotsuoy

Giraffes have the coolest mouths. They don't have upper front teeth, their tongues are attached towards the middle of their mouths, and they use powerful muscles in their throat to lift, push, and pull their tongues. The more I've studied them, the more I learn that I didn't know (but thought I did).

The shape of the skull is something I wouldn't have expected either. Now that I've looked at a few more animals such as the cow, moose along with the giraffe I see it's a more common design than my ignorance led me to believe.

Herbivores all have very similar skulls, and most people don't expect them to look the way they do because their noses and mouth are more muscle than they think. Skull study is something I love and have sense I was a little tyke staring at cow skulls hanging on fence lines. You see that a lot around here. :P

Heheh, nice! They are indeed really cool and talking about them among other things put me in good spirits for the rest of the day.
