Hardwick Old Hall with Hardwick New Hall in the background

This is the best photo i took while out today.. soo i appologise @.@ the light sucked. But it kind of sets a mood in this photo. In the foreground we have the remains of Hardwick Old Hall, built in the mid to late 1500s by Bess of Hardwick (Elizabeth Shrewsbury) who married four husbands.. and widowed by four husbands.. managing to mount up a huge wealth.. She was once told by a fortune seller "you will never die while you are building" - so on completion of the old hall, she began building the new.. well when you're one of the richest and most powerful women in the country (short of Queen Elizabeth of coarse) why not?.. The new hall was built between 1590–1597 but there was always work to be done on the halls.. Interestingly on a harsh frosty day in 1608, a day which the stonemasons could not work .. and so not building .. Bess Died.
