Last week, I learned that I will need surgery in my lower abdomen to help relieve some of the pain that was caused by a serious horseback riding accident in 2012 when I broke both of my hips. (Ouch!) The estimated cost of surgery is $17,880, of which my insurance will pay 90%. I am responsible for the other 10%, or $1,788, out of pocket.
To help raise the funds necessary for my operation, I've decided to give the Iron Artist Challenge a go!
What is the Iron Artist Challenge?
By my understanding, the Iron Artist Challenge pushes artists to draw 100 images that fall within a specific set of criteria. The artist sets her own parameters for the project, anything from setting a time limit for each image, working on anatomy, or experimenting with a new technique.
What are your goals for the Iron Artist Challenge?
For me, the Iron Artist Challenge will focus on the use of dynamic poses and digital coloring, two areas where my art needs improvement. Although I've had my tablet for a rather long time, I've never been completely comfortable with using it to create a piece of artwork from start to finish. My goal is to become proficient enough with my tablet to to just that. I'm also hoping to work with limited color palettes to create a more believable setting and mood for each piece.
That said, I'm more than happy to use traditional media if the commissioner prefers.
The Tier System
While some artists prefer to work with a flat fee for their personal Iron Artist Challenges, I'm offering a tier-based system that allows you to choose the option that works best for you.
Tier I - $20 - Single Character Line Art
Add another character for $5.
Sketches will be full body, unless the composition is more interesting with a tighter crop.
Tier II - $40 - Single Character Flat Color
Add another character for $10.
These illustrations will be full body and may include one prop, depending on the composition.
Tier III - $60 - Single Character with Shading
Add another character for $15.
These illustrations will be full body and may include up to two props or a very simple background, depending on the composition.
A La Carte Items
+$5 for complicated props.
+$5 per character for complicated design elements - complex markings, wings, armor, etc.
+$5 per character for adult content.
