Here it is: the last Ask Human Twilight update, ever. It was a fun run, and I only wish that I hadn't burnt out so as soon as I did.

I'll give you some TL:DR context.

So in the last post, King Sombra returned early - before the Crystal Empire - because of the disturbances caused by Twilight body swapping with Dawn, her human counterpart.

So as he returns, he begins to treat Equestria to the same dark magics he used to subjugate the Crystal Empire, and with his presence, spreading Dark Magic (which Celestia and Twilight are shown having to use in the series), or I suppose, a Wrathful emination, as his crystals begin to show up, little-by-little around the world.

This is one of the effects, as we see Twilight temporarily lose hold of her emotions and turning a firebolt spell into black flames. Gradually, dissonance sets in, and ones emotions sabotage the owners. Isolation, depression, hopelessness - actually using some of the tactics seen in emotionally abusive relationships.

Not like Discord, who turns people into their Kharmic opposites, Sombra's magic works to instill doubt and fear.

Before the entire world falls into malaise, Twilight and her friends need to find Sombra and send him back whence he came.
