Aesculus hippocastanum (critique requested)

Reixma

A photo I took today (31st May 2013) of the blooms from a Horse Chestnut (Conker) tree.

I wanted to get the detail of the flowers before they all disappeared through bad weather, seasons, time, chance, etc.
This photo was taken in the evening (about 20:00 (Erm... That's 7:00pm in Old Money)) down the road from the railway station where I live. The tree is mature with many branches all over the place, yet maintaining a uniform appearance. It's your typical, voluptuous tree, with branches reaching the ground, yet the tree standing many, many feet high.

The skies were getting dark due to rain clouds brewing with the sun behind me, about to be blocked out by the clouds. The wind was blowing well, so I had to hold the flower stalk on a low hanging branch with one hand while taking a picture with the other.

I had my camera on Macro setting, and the flash was on. Looking at the image on my camera, I thought the picture would be a fail. I was pleasantly surprised to see it worked really well! The detail of the flowers, and the Stigmas (the brown things) show up really well.

I think the colour of the grey clouds works as a lovely contrast to the pure, bright colours of the flowers. Almost like a fabric...

Some slight editing in Photoshop to remove a leaf in the background and a Stigma that looked out of place in the bottom, but that's it.

The camera I used has since passed on and I can't remember what it was. I have a new camera I use now. (Fujifilm).
