1k word challenge - Karma for a hungry mob enforcer by reedman

Gavuru was enjoying himself. The brown bear was toying with some micro mouse. He didn't even have a good reason. This mouse didn't owe money. There wasn't a hit on him. He didn't know who the mouse even was. He was just bored. He was feeling the little guy screaming and pounding his tiny fists on the pads of the bear's feet.

"You're gonna regret this!" the mouse screamed. "Just wait 'till my sister hears about this." The brown bear couldn't help but chuckle. This was the first time a micro threated to sic their sister on him. He took his foot off the white mouse.

"Ok little guy." Gavuru said. "That was funny. Now beat it. I'm bored." The mouse ran off, still screaming about his sister. He rolled his eyes as he resumed his walk downtown. He was in the middle of collecting protection money from some businesses in the area. He wanted to get wrapped up quick. The boss said she was having her baby brother in town today. She wanted him on protection duty when he got here. Apparently, her brother wasn't the biggest guy around.

He took a left turn into a diner. The door dinged as he entered. At the counter was an older human female. Dark brown hair. She smiled at him before she recognized him. The waitress at the counter lost her smile quite quickly. "Money's due." he grumbled as he approached the counter. His hulking eight feet of height towering over her. She whimpered a little as she walked over to the register. The drawer popped open. She reached in, and pulled out a wad of twenties. It filled her hand. He grabbed it with his finger and forethumb, then dropped it into his pocket. He gave her a wink before leaving.

The next few stops weren't much to talk about. A couple places talked tough, but all of them paid. It was pretty hard to say no to an eight foot tall bear. Impossible when they would be picked up with one hand. Their was a reason Gavuru was Hyka's top enforcer. He was the biggest non-macro in her employ. There were a few macros that worked for her, but they never fazed him. He had often contemplated getting a shrink ray and making room for a promotion.

The last collection of the day. A family owned tea shop. This one was gonna be annoying. The father had recently bought a shrink ray. There was always one every once in awhile that got bold. As he approached the building, the customers started quickly filing out. The sign was switched to closed. He casually pushed the door open. The family of foxes was all there. The wife and kids fled behind the counter. The father stood in front of it. Shrink ray in his left hand. The switch was flicked, lighting up the device.

"Money's due Fon." Gavuru said. The fox said nothing. Instead, he walked towards the bear. Shrink ray pointed at his chest. The bear sighed. "Don't waste my time Fon." he said. "I don't want to teach you a lesson in front of your kids. I will if you force me to." He stopped right before the shrink ray's tip. It was pointed right at his leather jacket. A smile crept across the bear's face. The shrink ray was shaking in the fox's hands. "Don't do it." the bear said coyly. "Last warning."

The fox closed his eyes, and pulled the trigger. The bear shook his head as the blast of energy bounced off him and hit the father fox instead. His family watched in shock as their family member dwindled away. Gavuru towered above him even more now. He looked over to the shrink ray, and casually stepped on it. It was crushed under his foot. He picked up the puny fox between his forefinger and middle finger. "You really think you're the first the try that stunt?" the bear said with a more pronounced smile. "That's gonna cost you." The fox's family screamed as their dwindled father was tossed into the bear's mouth. The bear swished the small body around his mouth for a bit. He debated spitting him out for a moment. But alas, the folk around here needed a reminder to not be so brave. With a hard gulp, he felt the kicking and screaming dissipate down his throat. He would probably feel the kicking in his stomach for an hour or two more. He looked over the the terrified family, now short one father. He walked back to the door. "This snack will cover you for now, but next month will be double." he said before leaving. Shrink ray proofing his jacket was the best investment of his life. Hyka knew people would always get bold and try stuff like that. All of them ended with the warning he demonstrated.

With that collection done, Gavuru made his way to the docks. The boss converted a bunch of warehouses there into housing for her. At the entrance to the warehouse were a couple of ehr bodyguards. Two white mice almost as tall as the warehouse itself. They glanced down at him, and let him pass. His pockets were absolutely filled with money. Hyka would be annoyed at the last place not paying up, but his demonstration would make up for it. Her desk was a former navy ship. He made his way up the stairs.

Before him was a female white mouse. She wore a form-fitting blazer. Her pure black eyes stared down at him. He went over to a large shipping container, and dropped off his money. He walked right up to the edge in front of her. "The tea shop tried to use a shrink ray boss. I took care of the guy though. They're paying double next month."

She said nothing. Instead, her massive hand came out of nowhere to grab him. In her other hand was a very familiar looking mouse. It was the micro mouse from a few hours ago. "Is this the bear that bullied you baby brother?" Hyka asked. As he squeaked out a yes, the hand rapidly approached her mouth.

This was a story concept I had rattling around. Was gonna shoot for a full story, but was in the middle of the big story I just did. Figured a quick 1k challenge would do instead.
