So there was a time that I was DEATHLY afraid of animatronics. And not just because of a certain extremely popular horror game, my fear predated that. Said horror game just made it WORSE.
However, there came a time, mostly out of curiosity, that I started looking into the Rock-afire Explosion, an old animatronic band that performed waaaay back in the 80’s, and which still appear here and there in a couple of music videos or programmed by those owning a set of the band in performing to other music (as is the case of Aaron Fechter’s set, the guy who also created the Rock-afire Explosion, and which crank out an original song now and then), which can be found pretty easily on youtube. Initially, I was creeped out by them (as to be expected), but for whatever strange reason, they grew on me. To the point that I actually find them very charming, and heck, actually pretty cute. With them, I was able to look past the scary and just enjoy them doing their thing.
To the point that I started doodling them. And they’re quite fun to draw, especially Beach Bear here, who is pretty much my favorite out of all the Rock-afire Explosion characters. There’s just something about this cool surfer-dude bear that strongly appeals to me. So it sparked this thing which was half fiddling, half experimenting, half putting in more effort than I expected to.
Animatronics scare me a lot less thanks to these guys. In fact, the absence of my fear has now sparked an interest in learning more about animatronics in general. They're actually really fascinating.
