Overpowered!

rainkaimaramon

Superman's apparently overpowered, because he can mop the floor with Strawberry Shortcake. Ignoring there's Darkseid, Trygon and the Anti-Monitor in his universe along with many other superheroes and villains that can warp reality with ease.

I never really got the whole "this character is overpowered" because they don't mean in the respected universe but all fiction. Kind of stupid, and these people keep wanting everyone to be "depowered" down to normal instead of just tailoring a threat to that character.

Kind of like how people whine and cry about having Dragon Player Characters in DnD, just ether make an god level monster or having a problem that can't be solved by using a breath weapon on them, maybe have that problem be personal like one character's daughter is marrying a human that's being blackmailed by some dragon hunters.

I also never got the measuring system people use, I know so and so is the best but what's it mean, is 2 in strength mean that person can lift 200 pounds or 2 tons?

I guess what I am saying fanfiction rules suck.

Yea, power is in relation to the universe. I help run a ff rp where gods and mortals can co-mingle. Pretty easy to balance characters in it, even though combat is not a main part of it.

Except for superman, he's a broken character by design due to the concept of his comics and for a good part of his life he didn't have set powers. Goku is the anime equivalent so it's no wonder they are paired. Screwattack's deathbattle team does a pretty good job as to explaining 'why' in their second superman vs goku episode.

I really can't except "broken by design" idea, it goes against the moral of this comic really. I had read some pretty good comics with Superman like the Death of Superman, All Star Superman, Superman vs the Elite, American Alien and many little back up stories.

Those stories really show a human part of the character, it shows that a character is only as creative and alive as the writer.

But modern fiction is measured by limitus tests and DnD sheets instead of imagination and hard work.

The ones you cite are after the point in his run that his powers had a set limit. Rather than whatever the plot needed. Look at the early comics up through the 50's and 60's.

That's more the writers then the character, of course one could say the saint of DC, Batman, is worse in that respect because at least Superman has an excuse of being from another world while Batman is "just a man", a man who taken down Darkseid with his bare fists and a gun, then travel through time since caveman days, has shark repellent and taking hits that would vaporize said Superman.

Of course the writers always say he's just "always prepared".
