It’s not that Jamie doesn’t like rain. She finds it comforting when she’s at home, under the covers, hugging onto her only hoodie, and tuning out the world except for the droplets outside. Rain is fine, perfectly fine; except when she wants to break away to her special place. A place that’s not hers completely, no, but she comes here enough times to make it hers. She naps against the tree after a long, tiring day at school. She carves initials of her first crush while she daydreams of a wishful future that makes her blush. She reads her favorite book here about a dozen or so times, and still feels the exciting chills to reread it all over again. This is where she finds happiness outside of places where she’s knocked to the ground or called by a name that doesn’t suit her. This is her paradise down by the ocean, where she hides underneath the cool shadows and breathes in the fresh sea salt air. This is all hers.

And it’s not suppose to rain in her paradise.
