GELFs and Themes (critique requested)

rabidraccoon

Did a little practice where I listened to music and drew the character said song reminded me of. c: I kept it to GELFs for this one after drawing two of them in a row, haha.

A little explanation for each, starting with the upper left character:

Cadillac Dreams by Birdy Nam Nam - Frankie

This was the best choice for Frankie, really- he’s a very ambitious GELF, wanting to make it big in one way or another to simply be able to relax and enjoy life as it is. He’s a very go-with-the-flow kind of character, very little bothering him and quite capable at adapting to many different situations. His obsession with wealth may have to do with the company credited with his creation going down by it’s own choice rather than lack of success, wanting to be able to have enough to be able to make that kind of choice- to simply drop everything and let it all go.

Personal Jesus by Depeche Mode - Gris

Gris is very much a con man,at least to a degree. His specialty seems to be in his charm and persuasiveness- he could even be described as manipulative. Gris also is fairly pessimistic (he calls it being realistic), and has a deep contempt for faith, seeing it as a way to con people out of anything by scaring and telling them what they want to hear, or at least something being very capable of doing so- the very example of a predatory practice, he calls it. This may be a way of deflecting his own problems, however— feeling used by the company that could be best described as the only place he felt he belonged.

Maps by the Yeah Yeah Yeahs - Grey

Grey’s life before working for the tea shop was anything but stable or pleasant- he lacked a lot of the skills for other jobs after the company he worked for dissolved, arriving just as the company was closing it’s doors. After a particularly nasty firing, he was finally found and supported by a Itanta in the city who was, ironically enough, the one responsible for the company’s founding and most of it’s product development— the lead scientist and researcher. Grey is a very honest and caring individual— a bit shy, short-tempered, and sarcastic, but kind nonetheless. Little is known about where the Itanta who cared for him previous ended up- Grey remembers little about his whereabouts and is still looking for him, bearing his markings and an old pair of his glasses- keepsakes from his first and very best friend.

Blackbird by the Beatles - White

White clung to Frankie right from the second they were kicked out of the company, going everywhere he went and staying with him at every opportunity (Frankie didn’t mind- he was fairly protective of White to begin with and preferred having him around). He felt for a long time that he had no direction without the company, walling himself in and hiding from most of the world at large in many different ways— reading books, wearing large, baggy clothing, finding secluded spots when he and Frankie went out. It wasn’t until he started singing that he started to come out of his shell— which was good, as his singing attracted the owner of the neighboring bookshop to White and Frankie’s apartment, where he was hired and now currently works. The inquisi owner absolutely adores White and likes to pester him to at least hum on occasion- he happily sings when work is slow and the store is empty, but good luck when someone is there he doesn’t know (he prefers cheesy terran love songs and some operatic music- he possesses a good range but has a fairly bassy voice).
