"The library's gonna close soon," Anthony warned, glancing out the nearest window. The campus was darkened and appeared almost purple in the setting sunlight. Jason seemed to be ignoring him, still stooped over his chemistry textbook, scanning the same paragraph for the third time. The blond's brow was furrowed in frustration, the hand that held his head off the table rubbing his temple as if to quell a headache. Anthony stared for a minute or two, anticipating some form of response, but, when it never came, he started to gather his things and shove them back into his backpack. He was startled, however, when a notebook was shoved aggressively in his direction.

"Show me one more time," Jason demanded, leaning over the table, anxiously waiting for Anthony to comply. The ravenette glanced at the notebook and found himself stifling an exasperated sigh. He had gone over example after example with his classmate, but Jason never seemed to understand the material an ounce more than when they had started studying earlier that evening. To make matters worse, when Anthony asked if he understood, the blond was quick to blurt "yes" every time, though his persistent confusion proved otherwise.

"Okay," he breathed, plucking his pencil from the table where he'd left it. The notebook was closest to the middle of the table so that Jason could see it, so Anthony stood and angled himself until what he was writing wasn't completely upside-down from the other male's perspective. "Look, you've got 2,342 grams and you need to convert it to kilograms. All you have to do is put what you want over what you don't want--so kilograms over grams--and multiply it by the number they give you."

Jason watched, befuddled, as the ravenette submerged nearly his entire arm into his enormous book bag until he located his calculator. A few taps and clicks later, he wrote the final answer onto the page, completing the example, and Jason swore he understood it but didn't feel any more knowledgeable than all the previous times they had gone over what were basically the same example.

"And you get 2.342 kilograms. See?"

Jason stared at the page for a moment, deathly silent, before he finally managed a slow nod.

"A-are you sure?" Anthony asked, though he was reluctant, wanting to avoid having to go over the same thing yet again.

"Mhm," the blond hummed softly, eyes still trained on the page. Obviously, Anthony doubted that he was telling the truth. The smaller male stared at him for a few seconds, inwardly battling with his conscience over whether or not he should stay until Jason finally understood. The blond didn't give him the chance to decide, however.
"Thanks," said Jason curtly, quickly gathering his own things. In all honesty, he didn't want to spend half the night in the library--or anywhere else, for that matter--with some quiet kid he barely knew. He had things he'd rather be doing, like jogging or playing a couple late-night sets at the tennis courts. He was tired of sitting. That wasn't to say that his worry over failing the exam had dissipated, but he was so frustrated that continuing their study session would be a waste of time. He needed to cool off, let what little new information he'd gained ferment for a while and try again later.

"Can I have that?" he asked impatiently, referring to the examples Anthony had scrawled in his own notebook. Before his classmate could even think to answer, Jason ripped the page from its binding and stuffed it into his own pack, slinging the heavy bag onto his shoulder and bounding out the doors. Anthony stared after him in mild shock before releasing a sputtering sigh, shaking his head as he finished collecting his things.

"You're welcome," he muttered.

These are characters I have had for awhile but have never shared. Honestly, I haven't written much with them at all. This is the first thing I've ever written with them that I've actually finished, if that tells you anything. I thought about writing a short, little romance with them, but I, obviously, never got around to it. Anyway, you may see some characters of mine that I've never even spoken about before. I said I'm trying to write every night, but that doesn't mean I always have the muse to write with my major characters. I didn't want to pass up the opportunity, so I opened a blank document and this is what came out of me. Still, I have fun writing with these two, and I do like this piece. I may just start writing with them more often. Let me know what you think!
Characters are © to me.
