Lucie's heart pounded against the inside of her ribcage. She could run for it -- a strategy that might or might not work, depending on how fast the fox was, and the fox looked pretty fast. But the fox's attention was currently focused on Stef, and Stef wouldn't be able to make a break for it: the massive litter she was carrying would prevent any kind of swift movement. Like the dog, that belly probably made her an even more appetizing target -- the extra weight would both slow her down and make her a more filling meal. Maybe Lucie could distract the pred -- kick her bite her to grab her attention, then make a run for it.

The fox's gaze fell on Lucie momentarily, and she gave the mouse a wink. Then she turned her attention back to Stef, climbing onto the couch with her. She straddled the possum, her own hips pressing against Stef's belly. The fox ran her tongue across her muzzle in a slow, deliberate motion.

"P-please," Stef said, her eyes wide. Lucie wasn't sure if Stef was pleading for mercy from the fox, or for help from Lucie. The fox responded by placing a gentle finger on Stef's lips, silencing her.

"Shh," the fox said. "Just relax and try to enjoy it."

The fox leaned in, and the tips of their muzzles pressed together for just a moment. Then the fox opened hers wide, and Stef's began to slide inside, disappearing into the fox's mouth.

Lucie could help. She should help. She doubted she'd be able to take the fox in a straight fight, but the fox certainly didn't look as impressive a beast as that lion had been. Lucie could try to pull the possum from the fox's mouth, and the two of them together might be able to overpower her, or at least incapacitate her to help her escape.

The fox finished engulfing Stef's head. Stef had started to struggle now, but the fox used her hands to hold her arms at her sides as she continued downwards, her throat bulging out as the possum's head entered and she began to swallow up her shoulders. Muffled words came from the fox's throat, but Lucie could only make out the occasional word -- "help" seemed popular.

Lucie swallowed hard. She had never observed a predator eating this close before. It was fascinating to watch -- enough to almost make her forget that her friend was the one being eaten.

The fox's progress slowed a bit as she reached Stef's chest. At first Lucie thought that maybe the skinny fox had bitten off more than she could chew, but then she began slowly working the possum's breasts into her mouth, eliciting a new wave of squirms from the possum.

Lucie squirmed too, shifting her hips on the couch and adjusting her shirt. Her face felt like it was on fire. She tried to close her eyes, but she could still hear what was happening, wet gluks and slurps clearly audible as the fox began gulping down Stef's belly.

Lucie opened her eyes to see the fox turning around, spinning the both of them so that she was now sitting on the couch next to Lucie and Stef -- or at least what was left of her on the outside -- was resting in the fox's lap. The fox finished slurping up Stef's round stomach, causing her throat to bulge outward, and Lucie knew that her fate was sealed now.

She could still try to help -- grab Stef's ankles, try to at least slow the fox down. Instead she just watched, her hands clenched into fists and her arms shaking slightly.

The fox tilted her head back, swallowing down Stef's thighs, then her calves. Her toes disappeared with between the fox's lips. Her teeth clicked closed, she swallowed, and Stef was gone.
