Hello it's a lovely picture but as you said the background needs work. One of the hardest things for illustrators and painters is the use of green. A lot of green in foliage and nature isn't green that leans on the blue side - unless its in the far background being influenced by the sky in the atmosphere, but it's really more of a desaturated yellow. If you use stronger deep saturated reds it will look more green.
