Depends entirely on the wings, this is 'random birdlike wing' and not based on any one bird, some birds feathers do spread out quite wide at the tips (such as vultures) others do not spread out at all. It depends on the manner in which the bird flies. Soaring birds usually have notable 'fingers' where as active fliers have 'solid' wing tips.
Here's a diagram that shows it a bit better: http://puu.sh/9ybdE/017ee878e3.jpg we use the same concepts with aircraft wings, the slotted highlift wing on an aircraft would be slotted fowler flaps and slats, the air flow goes through the slots and adds energy to the airflow over the wing keeping it laminar for longer and giving more lift, but also more drag. Where as high speed wings have minimal drag, but less left. High aspect wings use minimal energy to stay aloft for long periods of time (see albatross and B52), smaller wings sacrifice lift and stability for maneuverability, but not speed, making up in width what they lack in length to maximise lift without further extending the wing, high in drag (so more flapping power required) =3 man I love wings.

Whereas I like the pose and expression of this char, I have to say that something about the outstretched wing seems a bit off to me. Shouldn't the feathers spread a bit? It seems so massive, not very light-boned, winglike. Maybe that is just my imagination though.
