After the many failed space missions of the Porygon 2 prototype, it was unanimously decided that the Porygon probe line would be discontinued and all probes terminated. However, an underground group of trainers dedicated to preserving rare pokémon obtained an original Porygon prototype, and with it the original programming. From this single Porygon thousands were manufactured and distributed for battle usage. Although the Porygon was a powerful pokemon, its space mission design failed to utilise the true potential of the Pokemon. Through the course of a decade, computer programmers around the region eventually created "Patch 2.0". When a Porygon or Porygon 2 is traded holding Patch 2.0, its evolutionary course is altered completely, giving birth to "Porygon Alpha" (Or Porygon α)

This new, revised model is much more suited to a battle environment. Its head became elongated and sharp, and mobility between the body and limbs was increased. It was also given a keen sense of sight, improving the accuracy of is attacks immensely. Its short 'legs' develop into powerful, weighted fists armed with metal claws, capable of delivering fatal blows to any opponent.
