Cats do this sort of thing when playing.

It looks quite surprised. I can't tell if its happy, excited, or scared, but it is definitely surprised.

If you've ever seen cats play you've seen them do this.

I have had many cats, and their eyes and poses that they use tend to vary cat from cat when cats play depending on who their playing with and why. If anything, this is certainly an appearance that would be surprised, and possibly excited, so it makes sense that he/she could be playing.
