Lady Wolf (critique requested)

Paladin-Ciel

Lycanthropy in my tale affects different people psychologically in very different ways depending upon their personal beliefs, mental fortitude, and upbringing. people are either born into Lycanthropy where they will experience their first transformation shortly upon reaching adolescence, or are turned later in their lives via a bite from a member of the Lycan royal family. Once a person has experienced their first transformation they will become capable of shifting forms at will with sufficient training. The only time a Werewolf is forced into full transformation is during the nights of the full moon, during which no amount of mental strength is sufficient in fully resisting the transformation.

The animalistic urges and desires of a werewolf will build daily until it boils over during the nights of the full moon. The more often a person shifts before that point the more they are capable of controlling the beast within. Those who are constantly at odds with the mentality of their inner beast often attempt to resist changing at all cost. They are the ones that have the least amount of self-control when in wolf form and can become truly monstrous during those times of the month. On the other hand there are those who hate their human nature so badly that they will remain in wolf form for as long as conceivably possible. They are among the most dangerous members of the Lycan clans because they will freely abandon their human sense of moral judgment at the drop of a hat, preferring to run wild on pure instinct and desire.

Just as it is impossible for a Werewolf to completely resist becoming the beast it is also usually impossible for one to remain in wolf form indefinitely. Eventually a Werewolf's physiology will reach the point where it must revert in order undergo proper restoration, the timing of which can be incredibly devastating. It's similar to the differences between a man attempting to remain awake or asleep indefinitely, eventually they will have to change states or risk death. Overall a person who maintains a healthy balance between both extremes will be among the most powerful of Werewolves physically and mentally.

Werewolves are incredible regenerators that are capable of swiftly recovering from wounds that would be lethal to most other life forms. The methods for assuredly killing a Werewolf are generally the same as with other near immortal type creatures such as... extreme blood lose, decapitation or removal of the heart. Lycans bear a special weakness against silver metals where a unique reaction halts the internal regenerative processes of the body parts and or organs in direct contact with the metal. In those situations where contact with the metal occurs via silver bullets the specimens in question will usually bleed to death slowly over time. There are a select number of poisons that can also halt regeneration factor such as those derived from the alkaloids of Wolf's Bane. Werewolves can be killed without such specialized weapons but the skill level required to accomplish such feats are truly massive.

There have been some rare cases of persons afflicted by Lycanthropy that are so distraught by their new monstrous nature that they will actually attempt to commit suicide. These are truly tormented souls because during such attempts their body will initiate self defense actions such as locking down the persons mind and forcing a shift into full wolf form in order to up the body's regeneration factor. In such a state these people will become berserk beast incapable of human thought or compassion. They will attack any and all creatures that get near them and are completely driven by their animal instincts and desires. Upon return to human form such people will be overcome with grief and agony upon realizing the devastation they have committed upon their family or former communities. It may take decades or centuries before such beings become capable of coexisting with their bestial nature. Such people are truly cursed incapable of finding release.
