An Emotional Praying Time. by AshleyFoxKit

An Emotional Praying Time.

AshleyFoxKit

So, while at this United Pentecostal church youth group thing with my friends, we went into prayer for a bit. Being the rather clueless Jewish kid I am, I was rather confused and a bit alarmed when all these people started crying, swaying, and speaking in tongues. I don't see my friends cry usually, but I'll say, this was the first time I had seen them do exactly that. It was pretty powerful.

Here are my friends, Ashley (on the left) and Cydnie (on the right) swaying with their hands in the air. I guess it's a sign of surrendering to the Lord? (Please correct me if I'm wrong because I don't remember much but the emotions.)

Also, if you have anything bad to say about Christianity or religion, please keep it to yourself, and not on the picture. Thank you! :3

I've heard a lot of different explanations for what the raising of hands is supposed to represent. The surrendering thing is one, another is it mimics the behavior of children when asking for their fathers to pick them up, and I think a more obscure one is raising your palms to the sky, since in many religions the palm of the hand is seen as the place where spirits enter the body. If I'm correct, early Christians would pray with their palms up to represent connection to God, this was later replace by the folding of the hands to keep children occupied since their attention span is so short.

Wow. So many different ways to think about it! Thank you for the comment.
