Tai was always somewhat paranoid that they would get smart enough to hone in on her ship’s ping, and today was the day those suspicions were very harshly confirmed. A small-scale war party tracked her daring FTL jump to the planet’s surface, a trick she has used only a handful of times to get out of real trouble, and now that they had sniffed out her base of operations on this raucous desert world, she challenged herself to make absolutely sure they would not get the chance to relay this information to the rest of the fleet… When hours later the gunfire finally hushed to a deathly silence, she took respite behind cover and warily kept her sights aimed into the consuming darkness until the sun’s light petered out.

Dinner would be late tonight.
