Bit of an unusual theme from me this time around, this is the cover for an e-book by Kindar ( https://www.weasyl.com/~kindar )

You can get the e-book here : https://books2read.com/u/mBeQLA

And since my own words probably wouldn't really do a well formulated synopsis i'm just gonna go with what Kindar wrote on his own:

The Law of the Jungle rules.

When the only animals around are people, they must hunt each other for food.

When bodies are left unclaimed and unpaid for, it's a Registered Investigator's job to find out who did the killing so they can be made to pay the tax.

Marlot is such an investigator, and when he is on the case, looking for the killer of one of the larger pharmaceutical company's the vice president, he finds himself having to deal with the narrow mindedness his small town upbringing instilled in him, and having to decide what he must do about his partner, and lover, Trembor.

So, yes, if detective stories are up your alley it might be worthwhile to give it a go and grab it over here https://books2read.com/u/mBeQLA
And if you enjoy it and want to support him even further then you can find his Patreon over here : https://www.patreon.com/kindar

It is quite sad how silent weasyl is sometimes

I wonder how big this tax is since it would pretty much mean what value they place on life.

However, this cheetah looks like she's not just another victim, judging by the candles and leaves. She got her own shrine. Is she someone close to the investigator?

No, not close, and that's not really a spoiler either, so no worries there :)
The cover should make sense though in the course of the story

At first I was concerned a member of the community had tragically died again, glad to see that's not the case, but the artwork is stunning and I adore the way you did the portrait, it genuinely looks like a picture in there!

Apologies for that, you're not the only though if that eases that moment of concern a little bit. Of course a big big thank you as well! :)
