Third in the Life and Death Set

Jynx has finally caught up with Death.

Jynx: Death?

Death: *sigh* Yes, Jynx?

Jynx: Why did you send the soul of the tree away?

Death: Because it was in a lot of pain. Whatever Guardian resides in this forest isn't taking care of the creatures here. It just keeps pumping them full of life, and eventually, the soul starts to hurt.

Jynx: Is that why you send souls away?

Death: Yes. I send souls to the Realm of the Great one so they can rest before they are sent back.

Jynx: Then why are people so afraid of you?

Death: ....They didn't use to be... Far gone are the days of the great warriors who would welcome me with smiles on their faces and gratefully accept the rest I was about to give them....

Jynx: How long ago was that?

Death: Oh, a very long time ago, long before your time, your father's time, or even your great great grand father's time.

Jynx: Then why wasn't the Old Tree afraid?

Death: Because he knew me. I planted him... I used to be the Guardian of these woods, Jynx. That was before I became Death.

Jynx: How long ago was that?

Death: That was over four thousand years ago, my sweet.

Jynx: The Old Tree was really old, then.

Death: Yes he was. He should have been allowed to Rest long before now.

Jynx: I don't think I like the Guardian of this forest very much....

Death: I'm afraid I must agree...

Jynx: Why is the ribbon following us?

Death: I don't pretend to understand why the Fates do what they do, Jynx. They're wise old hags who know far more then myself.

Jynx: But you're the smartest person I know.

Death: Haha! Then you're in trouble, there are far too many who are far smarter then I.
