It’s suddenly the month of birthdays it seems. And my calendar this morning reminded me that Avalon’s Birthday is 14th Feb and I got the idea of a picture featuring both Avalon’s original first dragon form, his popular and present kangaroo form and his new and upcoming blue-jay form.

This is the most complex thing I’ve drawn in a while, working off references and playing with poses till I found ones I liked and then trying to lay them out. Focusing on keeping the picture together, characters similar size, expressions... expressive, and body shapes functional while leaving the details out for another time.

Fairly happy with how it came out! Done in SAI over three hours, with a bit of fit and finish in Paint.net for the web version.
