Profile

A misguided journeyman artist who makes art to quiet the voices in his head, thus averting therapy.

Secretly, a 97-year old luddite who lives in a clay hut in Flagstaff, AZ, farming potatoes and passing out handmade leaflets on the evils of technology.

Meal:Story/Courses:Plots

I came upon this site from a friend on DeviantART, where I've been a member for over five years, slightly longer than Flickr. Normally, I don't like to spread myself too thin and try to balance several sites at once, but recent events on DA have given me a little perspective, that I shouldn't limit myself and try to promote my work elsewhere. Exactly what that means as far as my presence here goes has yet to be seen. I have an idea of what I want to use this site for, but it's not presently something I'm ready to focus on.

The odds really couldn't be more stacked against me as far as my art goes. I'm largely self-taught and tend to work in a very abstract, surreal vein. I almost never do fan art, and as far as sensational material goes (sex & violence), I tend to play it fairly safe more often than not. I don't do a lot of character-based work, though that is something I resolved to focus on this year, and will probably be sharing a few of these denizens here in the coming months as time permits. These will mostly be in the form of text, though there may be the odd accompanying illustration, most likely something I've commissioned (such as my rabbitfolk lady Kuniklo, who is featured as my icon). I tend to be a bit verbose in my writing, especially my journals (I can only promise I'll try to keep them short, if only this introduction), but I know when to let the story tell itself, so to speak, leave more things up to the reader than try and hold their hand.

I've started writing flash fiction, extremely short narratives, that often emphasize tone more than location or characters. I don't like to write fragments if I can avoid it, and I'll always try to offer a resolution to any plot point brought up. It's very frustrating to read a story that you find out exists entirely to set up another story. It's not that I hate suspense or don't trust writers to finish their own work, but I'm a bit of a structure-hound. There's nothing wrong with leaving things ambiguous or leaving a story open for a continuation, but plots need closure. A New Hope may leave the Empire in power and Vader alive, but it doesn't end with Luke firing his torpedoes and then cutting to black. It may be a good story, but that's not a good plot.

It's been about 20ish minutes, and I should really get some sleep. I wanted to have something here so this account wouldn't look so vacant while I worked on other projects. Goodnight.
