The derogatory name given to classify a class of alien species, ignorantly named for their physical features. They are genetically related to neither fox or bird, hence the name FAUX (fake) and bird. Fake bird.

Design origin:
It all came about in a dream I had summer of 1988. In the dream I was flying from an opposing force (flying police cars!), paused for drink at a lake and saw my reflection. And a scraggly fox/cat-like bird thing looked back. The rest is history and "Rasheeda" became my fursona of sorts.

Body structure information:
Fauxbirds can have either short beaks, long or short muzzles. They do NOT have wet noses. Excellent long range eyesight, and night vision. Their hand and foot talons are covered in scales, dark in color. Their wings are not covered in feathers, but of modified hair follicles (think pangolin scales, yet thinner/lighter). Unfortunately the fauxbird molts these 'feathers' once a year, becoming grounded for a few weeks.

Also the fauxbird possess no physical scent, yet has great sense of smell. Males and females generally appear the same, and have a cloaca. They do NOT fly, they glide, but can jump high enough to become airborne. Fauxbirds cannot walk for extended periods on two feet, it hurts their ankles, and will lower themselves to travel on fours. Same applies to standing upright, as they will quickly drop down to stand on fours.

General nonsense about the critters:
Often the source of blame for cities catching on fire, anything and everything falling apart, young adult fauxbirds are known for their clumsiness. The adult fauxbird, however, are seen as a public nuisance. A flock of fauxbirds is a frightful sight, because massive amounts of property damage will ensue!

Another tidbit is that the fauxbirds can mimic noises perfectly, be it a another person or machine. They often use this talent to annoy people. They can also lay eggs and one of the few races who practice mating seasons, losing all their common sense for the goal of procreation. Because of this, fauxbirds are banned from public places during their season of love. Like dolphins, they will break out into a mating frenzy without warning, and will gladly pull you in to join!

To love a fauxbird is a sign of desperation due to their negative reputation. Despite this, they make loyal friends and always ready for a good time. They NEVER take life seriously, because of this fauxbirds live life violently, fun, thoughtless and short. There is no such thing as an old fauxbird.
