Michael meets his tutor, Mrs. Sobaka. She's a Hortaya Borzaya, a dog originally bred in Russia. Mrs. Sobaka explains how things are different from when Michael was alive 20,000 years earlier. She knows it'll take close to 4 months before Michael knows enough about "current" societal norms to be released on an unsuspecting humanimal society. She chooses to learn more about Michael first while explaining how humanimals are, genetically, half-human and half-animal, hence the name humanimal.

Meanwhile, a few miles away, Amanda is preparing to leave for work and finds herself confronting a police officer who's been called to the neighborhood to investigate a young woman who's attempting to break into homes.
