Copy-pasted from Tumblr, because I can't be arsed to write a new description:
"A sketch/character sheet for an idea I was interested in. For background, I’m developing a comic series that takes place in what’s essentially a post-apocalyptic 1950′s USA. With anthropomorphic animals, because of fucking course.

This deadly pigeon, who I’m calling Ghastli, is supposed to be a sort of symbolic character who represents vigilante justice - specifically, the radical “judge, jury, executioner” variety - as it occurs in an atrophying society. His hometown was raided and and settled by a a violent wasteland faction, and he has vowed to protect the innocent at all costs. He is feared as a demonlike figure among the faction, whom he is determined to wipe out completely. No quarter, no excuses.

Unfortunately, his code of ethics is so strictly calculated that he will kill on the loosest suspicions of depravity. While he is efficient at eliminating the truly evil and sadistic, he still poses a threat to the concept of a peaceful society that he hypocritically champions for.

That all sounds really dark. Did I mention this story is supposed to be a comedy?

(this drawing looks like I did it in a fucking coal mine. i actually kinda like that look for the artstyle)"

Ahh I love it, plague doctor inspired pigeon =D Visually at least. Justice shall be served in the wasteland. I also love the 'I did this in a charcoal mine' look honestly, it gives the picture more depth and character. If it was all clean then.. it wouldn't give that nitty gritty emotion of the apocalypse. It feels more like a sketch someone did inbetween missions.

As far as critique goes, the arm holding the gun looks as if it's facing inwards, as if he's holding his ribcage, not the gun. From the shoulder to the upper arm, the lines could be altered a bit, and at the elbow if you faced the creases a different way, it'd look like the arm would be more outwards =3 (I'll provide a redline cause I fail terribly at explaining). Beyond a bit of a lean that the character has (heck it could give him more character) I think it looks great <33

I see what you mean with the arm! I am experimenting a bit with a different technique for drawing cloth folds in this style; something which should be easier to do, provide better results, and fit the angular aesthetic better.

There was some intention to that lean you mentioned, but I feel that I could have done it better. The more I look at it, the more off-balance the pose looks, and that makes the character look a tad flat in execution. Maybe if I'd exaggerated it more by moving the waist a bit to the left and tilting the shoulders further to compensate?

Perhaps <3 By no means is my critique meant to make you change the drawing you already have, but to suggest improvements to look out for in the future =3 I'm glad you were able to see what I meant though, and at least you can draw clothes and folds =D I tell people I like to draw nude things cause I just don't feel like dealing with clothes pff. But yeah, just remember those little tips in the future, art is a learning experience, and when ya look back on it weeks, months, years later, you'll see how much better you've gotten =3

That thing about nude drawings definitely resonates with me. I spent a long time working on anatomy and figure drawing, and ended up with very few pictures of characters actually wearing anything. Now that I'm more confident with body construction, I'm finding a lot more satisfaction in coming up with outfits and accessories.

Really cool design, especially the plague-doctor looking gas mask! Love the pencil work too; I think it fits the theme well.
