Before the coming of man, Books were free creatures, roaming the bookshelves however they pleased. But as men multiplied and conquered the earth, they also acquired 'Knowledge'. This 'Knowledge' restricted the Books' movement from place to place. The Knowledge stated that no one Book could move itself on it's own; that had to be done by either man or 'gravity'. This 'gravity' also had rules. No one book could rest its bottom against nothing; nor could it have only one upright cover against another object. The Books rebelled, but the strength of man was too great.
None remain who remember the original Books and their freedom, but every once in a while.. when no one is looking... the Books will play.

What an utterly charming little tail. And how well it goes with the image, too.
