A sea bird with a range of almost all major oceans of the world, the Sooty Shearwater. The shearwater group flies with minimal wing flaps to travel long distances. Sooty Shearwaters were the bird that sparked Alfred Hitchcock’s imagination for his thriller, The Birds, when an incident involving thousands of ‘crazed’ Sootys dying and flying into things was reported in North Monterey Bay, California.
