Let's face it, this is one of the crowning moments of the Final Fantasy franchise. The Opera Maria and Draco is a gameplay event in Final Fantasy VI. It is also the collective name of a set of four tracks, written by Nobuo Uematsu and Yoshinori Kitase and featured in the game's Original Soundtrack, later released as a single track in multiple album compilations.
The four tracks that play duing the sequence of events are, "Opening", "Aria di Mezzo Carattere", "The Wedding", and "Grand Finale?".
In the game's original Japanese version the music is closely aligned with the lyrics, although because of technical limitations no voice is heard except for an attempt at recreating a voice on the SPC700 sound format.
The "Aria di Mezzo Carattere", one of Final Fantasy's most famous musical themes, is performed within the opera.
Written by Nobuo Uematsu and Yoshinori Kitase for Final Fantasy VI. It is sung by Celes, while impersonating the opera singer Maria, during the party's attempt to contact Setzer.
And, let's face it... with me being an actual opera singer AND a gamer... this is something that was inevitably going to happen. So here it is- the Aria Di Mezzo Carattere
Amore mio, caro bene
Perchè vai lontano da me?
Giurasti un amore, che mai non doveva
Avere fine per noi
Nei momenti di tristezza
Nei momenti di dolore
A te, mia stella, penso
Con infinito ardore
Un legame senza speme
Perchè mai dovrei avere?
Che cosa tu vuoi ch'io faccia oramai
Mi devi dire tu
Ti ringrazio, caro bene
Amore mio, vita mia
Al grave doler, al buio timore
Che il cuore mi turbò
Dolcemente, con amore
Hai risposto al mio gridare
Per sempre ognor, per sempre ognor
Qui a me, t'attenderò
