[Day 1] Seeking Solace by maybarros

[Day 1] Seeking Solace

maybarros

I decided to start a challenge: I'll draw a sketch a day for a year. Each sketch also has to have a companion written piece.

This is the first drawing ^^

It was dark already and she still had a long way to go. For her, walking was soothing, calmed the rhythm of her heart, helped her breath. The cold air was but a reminder that she was alone. In the sky, only the stars could see the her drift away from everything she once called home. She never belonged there. The beach were her favorite place. The sand felt like silk against her bare feet and the water splashed against her legs. In that moonless night, she made a wish. She traded her tears for the chance to make friends, at least once in her life. She walked on, going further and further away from the shore, it was impossible for her to drown, the water could never hurt her. Nobody was allowed to hurt her. She swam for days, alongside dolphins, sharks and whales. She was free and it wasn’t enough, for she was alone.

It was in a distant town, after she had wandered for a lifetime, that she stopped in the harbor to watch the stars, her companions since the beginning, that her wish was granted. Flakes of light fell down from the sky and she held her hand to catch them. They were bright and warm against her palm and she smiled for the first time since leaving her birthplace. Those were her friends, the stars that had been with her for all those years. She had no more tears to cry, just the feeling of belonging.

Carefully, she opened a small pouch and store the little stars inside. She was a wanderer by nature and her journey was far from over.
