Matthias so far is my Favorite Hero in the Redwall series, particularly in book/season 1, as well as Cornflower.
Matthias is an interesting hero because there's nothing that really that motivates him to be the "Warrior or Redwall"
other than he just wants to. Yeah the series likes to play with the idea that he's "destined" to be the successor to
Martin the Warrior and the TV series in particular likes to play with the idea of cluny killing his family when he was a
Small child, but at the end of the day, nothing compels him to be Redwall's Defender other than his own choices,
almost like Michael Keaton's "Batman"; He can't really explain what his motivation is, it's just something he has to to,
Because no one else can.

And Cornflower is always supportive and Kind to Matthias, as well to all others in Redwall. The chemistry between she
And Matthias seems to just grow naturally and doesn't ever feel forced, they start off as friends that do chores around
The Abby and then grow into lovers very naturally.
