Roosting Scars by MaskedLin

Roosting Scars

MaskedLin

This piece was meant to show the scar on her shoulder. It's called a roosting scar. Roosting scars are similar to birthmarks, but unlike birthmarks, they are always resultant of an injury that happened before or during hatching. They aren't very common, because they mostly happen when an egg is moved too much in an unsafe way, like rolling or being jerked, and result in impairments in the affected area. Some look worse than they are, and others don't reveal the extent of the damage, so the size isn't a reliable means to tell how bad the impairment is. The good thing is that all of these impairments can be lessened, and most fully ridded of, through therapy.
