Life With Puwmas 1

Mac-Dragon

To think it’s been a little less than a year since I moved to this planet. So much happened in such a short time, and I’m still struggling to adjust, but I won’t say that I regret it.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I first heard from my old college roommate Geus about these Puwma colonies. They seem to be sprouting everywhere across the galaxy. Geus told me how amazing they were firsthand. Everything from the housing to the food was either dirt cheap or provided by the community. It sounded too good to be true, but Geus wasn’t the only one making this claim. Several others who settled in hold high praise the Puwma’s generosity. Even the global governments in my area were in negotiations with Puwmarian diplomats at the time. Curiosity led me to see for myself if this testimony held any ground.

I was shocked to hear that there was already a Puwma established shuttleport just about an hour from my apartment. I worked out my schedule to spend some of my remaining sick days to spend a week at one of these colonies. When I arrived at the shuttleport, my eyes were seeing Puwma’s almost everywhere. These blue felines were working the desk, moving luggage, and even greeting people coming in and out the doors. I won’t lie, it was a bit eerie how cheerful they were at first. My first exchange with them at the reception desk didn’t help alleviate that feeling.

“Good evening sir! How may I be of assistance?” The azure receptionist asked beaming with joy.

“Hi. Uh, I’m looking to see where’s the nearest colony?”

“Oh, that would be the planet Dunzan. There’s a flight scheduled to board in about an hour with some seating still available. Would you like to book a flight?”

“Yes please. How much will-” before I could finish she gave me a light chuckle.

“No need to worry about that sir. I just need your name and passport.”

I was taken aback by that. Are they really offering rides completely gratis? Regardless I complied with her request. She took a moment to look over my info, while typing, and a plastic card printed from behind her side of the desk. She handed it to me, still having a pep to her step.

“Here you are Mr Markson. This colony keycard can be used for any services you may need during your stay. Please try not to lose it, and I hope you enjoy your stay.”

I took the card with a bit of hesitation, though trying not to seem to alouf. “Thank you.”
I took a seat in the lobby waiting for my flight to board. Periodically, some of the staff came to me asking if I was alright, if I needed anything, or even offered me water and small snacks. I took the offer of water at least, but I still couldn’t shake off the feel of unease from them. It was probably just part of their culture I thought to myself and tried to forget about. Soon enough, my flight was called for boarding, and I was off to my shuttle. Walking by, I noticed some familiar faces from school and home. Namely Tyler from botany class and his girlfriend Clair. Seems from the sounds of things Tyler’s going to study Puwmarinan plant life, which they had some examples of around the lobby oddly enough. The maroon and turquoise patterns from some of them seem almost otherworldly. I wondered if any more plants at the colonies have such vibrant palettes. I would find out that mystery and more later when I would arrive at Dunzan.

So this is part 1 of a who know's how long image sequence I want to work on to improve my output. Have the general idea scripted out, but still my change some things when I get to them. Anywho, who my visuals and writing are good. More to come.
