Haunting Cold Ref

LTSmiley

Invader Name: Haunting Cold

Height: 5’7’’

Technical Gender: Male

Age: ?

Rank: Mercenary

Specialty: Mercenary

Species: Aquatic Qwuedeviv

Appearance: Cold is a dark gray-blue furred Qwuedeviv with a significant portion of white on its face, belly, legs, neck and underarms. Small quill-like spines jut out from the sides of its face like whiskers and from atop its head, back, back of ankles and a single one amongst the fur of its tail. It also has rosettes of a light tan along its back and over the top of its head. The spines have rings of a lighter color around them.

Personality: Many say that Cold’s name describes it quite well—a cold being. Cold often looks irritated or at the very least, not amused. Cold tends to be a no nonsense Qwuedeviv. Although it may tolerate the other’s occasional bouts of silliness, Cold itself will not partake in it. Although it may not be the most exciting deviv to exist and additionally, not the most friendly to come across, Cold is very patient and does not easily become angered, not anymore anyway. This is probably a lucky coincidence for Black Frost given its ‘minor’ issues. Cold does live with a deep sense of grief and struggles with frequent bouts of guilt and anxiety though.

Background:

Haunting Cold is quick and efficient in its line of work. It works amongst a small mercenary crew, which is shares command of with Frostbitten Nightmares—the Qwuedeviv that helped train it. Cold feels the weight of a lot of responsibility and the need to never disappoint Nightmares (which is unlikely to happen anyway, given Nightmares’ disposition).

When Haunting Cold was still a kitten, it watched its younger sibling die in an accident that ended up with it tumbling off the side of a cliff into the ocean below. Instinctively, Cold was ready to follow its sibling to try and help it, but it was held back by another who insisted they’d both end up dead.

It never did forget the Qwuedeviv who stopped it from trying to save its sibling—wishing it would have not survived if its sibling couldn’t. After graduating from the Academy, it confronted the other Qwuedeviv’s younger sibling Shiver Hawk and growled accusations about its older sibling, Nightmares, having killed its sibling. When the other insisted its sibling would never do such, Cold became enraged and attacked it. The two fought for some time, attracting the attention of some of the others and Nightmares. Nightmares flung Cold away from its sibling, but Cold was still blinded by grief and anger and continued to attack. The fight ended fairly quickly. Once Cold had exhausted it remained down on its hands and knees the other staring down at it.

Frostbitten Nightmares was a mercenary at this time, thus Haunting Cold was technically breaking code by attacking it. Nightmares never reported it though and later requested to have it transferred into its mercenary crew. Cold was anything but happy about this, presuming it to be some kind of punishment for having attacked its sibling. But on the contrary, Nightmares had no such intent.

It took Cold a long time to accept this fact, especially since it wanted to be able to have someone to blame for its sibling’s death. It did eventually come to the acceptance that it was not Nightmares fault that its sibling drowned though. It was later granted partial command of the decision making for the mercenary crew and eventually ended up with a mercenary apprentice of its own.

Cold struggles a bit with its apprentice as the kitten is afraid of the very thing it is supposed to be hunting. Although Cold is very patient with Black Frost, it does find the kitten’s behavior confusing and hard to really handle. Nightmares seems more amused by it than anything, constantly reminding Cold not too get too upset with the little cat.
