Vesh Maundrell is a young black cat from an old noble house in the north of Calabria, residing in Castle Rosemont. Hailing from a skilled family of fencers, Vesh's father, Lord Victor was renowned as the finest duelist in the realm, having never lost a duel. One night, at a feast held in honor of Vesh's coming of age, one of the lords in attendance challenged Lord Victor to a duel. The fight was long and grueling, and Lord Victor was defeated. The challenger, Lord Sylas Briarwood, revealed an anti-magic talisman around his neck, proclaiming that Lord Victor's victories were actually the work of his wife, who cast spells on her husband's opponents as the duels raged.

Shamed and humiliated, Vesh fled Castle Rosemont, vowing to bring honor and renown back to the Maundrell family name, becoming an excellent swordsman himself. And every vistory brings him closer to his ultimate goal: to defeat Lord Sylas in a duel on his own and to show him that "the most beautiful roses are watered with blood."
