More Tuesday Portrait Cuteposting/bringing back doing Random Creature Design to See What Sticks, this time featuring a random droid/robot design.

Find Me On:
FurAffinityWeasyl

For this one, I tried designing a general-purpose "omni-competent" robot that would be just as capable in a factory or mine, working as a janitor or mechanic or even customer service attendant, serving as a pilot, or deployed on the battlefield, depending on what their owners need them to do.

These units wouldn't be associated with any particular interstellar governing faction, but rather, constructed by one of the interstellar industrial conglomerates, meaning these droids could be found galaxy-wide, albeit with some customization depending on what group or faction owns them and what role they are serving.

This one sat half-finished in my pictures folder for about two months. Oops.
Really a shame since I am actually really happy with how this turned out.

You walk into hotel reception thinking if that's a mark 3a those two red dots are facial recognition determining personal preference in receptionist familiarity or if it's a mark 4b I'm going to be shot between the eyes, very relaxing - might be popular in Japan. ;-)

It may not matter if that security vulnerability in the 3A's software hasn't been patched yet, and it's still possible to force in assassination programs--that's how the mob took out Kleeborp Xanadu, by hacking into the bartender drone and using its facial recognition and customer personalization databases to find out that Xanadu was deathly allergic to Danajarban barrelroot starch, and "accidentally" make his cocktail with barrelroot syrup when he visited the lounge at Altair Station...

(Note: "Kleeborp Xanadu" isn't a real character in my canon, nor is "Altair Station" a canon location (yet), but "Danajarban barrelroot" is a thing and this seems like a 100% plausible description of an event that could happen in-universe.)

This does raise a lot of interesting questions surrounding the use of autonomous machines and AI, from the legality of a machine accidentally killing someone by giving them food they are allergic to, to being hacked and used in the commission of crimes and who is held accountable, to just HOW you roll out security patches and updates galaxy-wide when vulnerabilities are detected, or how long you offer updates after the drones hit the market... and what if it turns out the power cells are prone to catastrophic thermal failure (read "fiery explosions") like the ones used in the 2C2.11 units...
