Dominion City by LordDominic

Dominion City

LordDominic

It is once again World-Building Wednesday, my dudes.

In which I decided to just chill, play with shapes a bit, and finally design a generic Lightbearer Dominion city scene.

I was originally considering using this as a background for another piece, but decided it wasn't suitable for that purpose. However, it IS a really nice-looking (if not a bit generic) looking sci-fi cityscape, and I will likely use (and abuse) it as a background element in the future.

This is what I always imagined the average Lighbearer Dominion urban center to look like--a strange industrial uniformity yet still chaotic and random as the city is built up over the years. I also wanted the visual style to contrast with that of Jeroban/Cygnian architecture, which favors earthy tones, softer edges, and whose skyscrapers are vaguely reminiscent of the mesas and plateaus of their desert homeworld. In contrast, Dominion architecture features the same industrial metallic look, colors, and feel of their starcruisers, with more sharp edges and overlapping construction elements.

At some point in the future I would also like to mess with blending Dominion futuristic construction aesthetics with the more traditional architectural styles of their various member worlds, as the Dominion is prone to building up cities over years and centuries and it would be very in-character to have a row of traditional Zerdan townhouses or a Keahi fortress or ancient Luciferian temple incorporated into a modern Dominion tower.
