Commission: Porcius Porter by LordDominic

Commission: Porcius Porter

LordDominic

A commission for a friend off-site who wanted to see me bring back my porcine pilot, Porcius Porter, as well as give him a bit more character development, as I seem to have all but forgotten Porcius over the years...

Yes, I am in fact more than willing to draw my own characters for commissions as well, provided the idea is in character for them! It's also a nice change of pace to be commissioned to draw more "serious" art vs. my usual silly underwear and diaper-based fare.

Porcius has gotten a bit of an update since I last drew him back in 2015/2016, and he's now a member of my as-yet-unnamed "Hog Goblin" species, although part of a small population living on Demeter as opposed to their homeworld or one of the many other planets small groups of them have spread to over the ages.

Whether Porcius is aware of his alien heritage or not, I have yet to decide, but he is aware that he is the descendant of immigrants and has spent most of his life thinking that when his elders talk about "the Old World", they mean Europe, not a literal previous world.
As for why he seems a bit taller than most of his space swine counterparts, that just comes down to growing up in a different environment with different conditions and different nutrition, I suppose...

His personality and backstory and characterization haven't really changed that much from back then, however--he's still a rather fearless and overconfident boar, if not a bit clumsy, and his stubborn nature make up for his general awkwardness and clumsiness in a bizarre form of "fake it 'til you make it" mentality. Additionally, being physically robust (and just lucky, or maybe literally too stubborn to suffer major injury) means he'll get out of ejections or even crashes that would land an average pilot in the infirmary for weeks with barely a scratch--which is a good thing, because he's definitely the worst fighter pilot in the squadron.

However, his "redemption arc" as one might put it revolves around him finding his true calling--while not necessarily well-suited to high-speed dogfighting and handling fighter jets at supersonic speeds, his stubborn and fearless nature actually make him very well-suited to piloting bombers and close air support jets like, coincidentally, the A-10 Warthog, the exact sort of craft his squadron mates might be a bit skittish about piloting due to the lack of agility and the fact they are often obvious (and easier) targets for anti-aircraft defenses. In fact, I think that's exactly how he'll earn the respect of the rest of his squadron (and the ground troops as well), by using a Warthog or similar jet to eliminate some ground-based targets that their fighter jets just aren't equipped to handle properly, his lupine and vulpine counterparts providing cover against enemy fighters while he handles the threats on the ground.

As I was working on the first version (left), my friend suggested the addition of a reserve parachute on his torso (right), which is definitely something Porcius might find use for, given how often he finds himself shot down... although it's also possible he's taken out the parachute and filled that pack with snacks, I suppose.
