While I'm going through a weird phase of drawing fan art for Nintendo games I watch my roommate play... He's been playing a lot of Splatoon 3, and I took a liking to one of the character designs.

Of course, being me, the character design I took a liking to isn't some prominent main character, a villain, a boss, an endearing side character or NPC, or anything special... it's a common enemy from one of the side quests.

That's right, a Salmonid. And not even one of the cute ones. The big fat slow one. The Cohock.

Also I gave him a spatula instead of a frying pan because at work I do occasionally have to run the grill, so it seemed fitting.

This was also good practice for drawing fish, something I rarely do, and I liked this guy's design enough to try making some alterations to it so it's unique enough to use as one of my own characters/species in-universe rather than being relegated to "one-off fan character I might role-play with once" status, especially since my universe is lacking in aquatic creatures in general.

I was simultaneously surprised by the abundance and lack of fan art and fan characters based off Cohock when I was looking at references (I tend to look at both official art and fan art when I need reference material)... on the one hand, they're not as cute as Small Fry or as interesting and unique as some of the boss enemies, but on the other hand they do seem like "fat fur"/"slob" bait as they're fat, slow-moving, squishy, and leave a trail of green slime wherever they go!
