Deer Shadow

More fun with portraits, this time featuring the shadowy specter known simply as the "Deer Shadow".

There's not much to say about the Deer Shadow--in life, they were a deer, and in death, they became a rather cranky, grumpy Shadow. I suppose most of my interest in them comes from the relation I imagine they have with the Puppy Ghost, initially finding said puppy annoying and wanting nothing to do with them before developing something of a soft spot for the playful little poltergeist and taking on something of a "babysitter" role.

What sort of actual story I could write for them, I haven't yet decided, although their first interaction would probably play out something like an old cartoon from the mid-20th century, with no dialogue and a simple story of a newly-deceased and now lost Puppy Ghost not fully understanding their situation and being drawn to the first ghost they see--a cranky Deer Shadow that just wants to rest in peace.

Also, for reasons I can't quite explain, it just feels right to refer to the ghosts with gender-neutral language, even if the presence of pronounced antlers would indicate the Deer Shadow was probably male in life.

Despite me referring to the character as "Deer Shadow", the original version was a bit more antelope-like, as I based it more on those Geoterran Antelope characters I haven't drawn in well over a decade.
So, I decided to give the shadow some proper deer antlers this time around, although the Geoterran Deer characters (another race I haven't drawn in at least a decade) were designed as a sort of "omni-deer" with a variety of antlers from unrelated real-world deer species...
