Hyena Egg by LordDominic

Hyena Egg

One thing I sort of regret doing years ago was abandoning a lot of the quirkier aspects of the Geoterra characters and their world. I guess in the first half of the 2010s I thought it would be a good idea to distance it from the fact that my early inspirations to draw fantasy cartoon animals included the "magic fighting monster" games like Pokemon and Digimon. I guess I was concerned they'd be seen as "too derivative", or that since these things sort of lessened in popularity my own work might be viewed negatively as a result of being inspired to some degree by them.

In hindsight, by trying to make them more "normie" I took away a lot of what made them interesting... the "magical metamorphosis" growth dynamic went unmentioned (and unexplained), I rarely if ever drew any of them breathing fire, shooting lasers out of their mouths or conjuring weapons from thin air, and I made their world a bit more Earth-like than I had intended back in 2004 when I first started drawing goofy cartoon hyenas with saber-fangs and imagined they'd live in little huts surrounding an ancient pyramid-like royal palace where the queen and king lived.

That ramble aside, one concept I rarely played with back then, and almost totally forgot about until very recently, was the idea that everybody might have come from an egg.

So as 2019 came to an end I decided to draw Jack, holding an egg, eagerly waiting for a new cub to hatch. Perhaps he can already hear and feel his future playmate moving around inside. (Fun fact, Jack was actually my first "anthro" character, and one that I used to draw constantly when I was first starting out.)

Not sure if this will be canon or not, but it is interesting to think about, and I wanted to draw some art for it.
