Manuel Rodrigues Moreira was a Starfleet medical officer in the late 24th and early 25th century.

Moreira was created on a Federation colony planet in 2366 by combining human and armadillo DNA. His parents wanted to change the perception of animals on their planet and increase animal welfare by breaking down barriers between "sentient" and "non-sentient" species. Moreira resented his parents for creating him as a political statement, and saw their effort as a failure.

Moreira's unique biology caused medical complications at a young age, and he was sent to Earth for medical treatment. The support and compassion he received from his doctors inspired him to attend medical school, where he became a specialist in hybrid biology, although his preference was to be a general practitioner. He entered Starfleet shortly after the Dominion War.
