This is how I spend a lot of nights, reading books like The Divine Comedy and Les Miserables. Which explains why I sleep well past noon on days I don't have to get up for anything.

Just a few things to say about this piece. I almost never do full backgrounds, let alone backgrounds that require such attention to perspective, so I thought it would be interesting to experiment a bit. I also wanted to try the style known as tenebrism, but this piece didn't end up having nearly high enough contrast to qualify. Plus it was really botched up by the scanner, so I had to tweak the contrast a lot in Photoshop.
