The Case of the Stolen Supplies

The Case of the Stolen Supplies

Super Tom here. As you know by now, I used to be in the Navy, and I first met Super Leo (before he became Super Leo, of course) the day we both crashed into the same battlefield, found the red, clear, and blue criptonitroglycerite, and accidentally took down the al-Qaeda barriers with our star-spangled blasts, allowing our ground troops in the Army to charge in and save the day. That may as well be one of the greatest days of my life, because Super Leo is now my best friend for life.

Super Leo and I haven’t had any luck finding a job since our military careers came to an end, but it feels like there’s no time left for one with all the fighting we’ve been doing in recent times. One battle after another, and it gets monotonous after a while because constant battle wears down the body as well as the mind. Yet I’m used to it, because there was a period of my life while I was in the Navy, where it felt like there was nothing to do but fight one battle after the next. I must have adapted to it, because I am battling against the feelings that try to engulf me and get me to complain that I’m bored when there’s no evil going on, and when it is, I might say something like, “Finally, something to do!” These feelings will not get to me no matter how hard I try, and I’ve got my friends to back me up.

While flying on patrol one day, Super Leo and I caught sight of a grand sight to see. Into the harbor sailed the very battleship I once landed and took off from, the U.S.S. Colorado. Almost immediately I heard “Anchors Aweigh” playing in my head, since there was no band there to play the song. I could also see flashbacks in my mind of those glorious days of my life in the Navy, when the ship sailed the seven seas in pursuit of all who threatened the American people’s lives, liberties, and pursuits of happiness. This was probably because the ship had returned for the season until the next time it was ready to set sail, and the sailors on it all came off, glad to be home and proud of themselves for a job well done. Some of them showed concern, which told me there was a crisis to resolve.

In a similar move to how Super Slash has reunited with General Morton, one of my superiors, Admiral Miles Mathis (and another tiger, by the way), caught sight of me. (I can’t recall the name but Super Leo also has kept in touch with one of his superiors as well, who is also a lion.) “Could I be this lucky?” he exclaimed. “Lo and behold, the legend has returned, and his best friend is with him! There is hope!”

“Do you know him?” Super Leo asked me after our super hearing detected his reaction.

“That’s Admiral Mathis. He is to me as General Morton is to Super Slash, if you don’t mind the analogy,” I said. “As tough as times were during my time serving on that very battleship, I never regret it. If I had to do it again, I would. In the meantime, let’s go see what he wants. He may have a problem and it’s us who has to solve it.”

“I’m right behind you,” Super Leo replied as we flew down to where Admiral Mathis was. I had never seen him so happy to see me since the day we took out the al-Qaeda barrier. “How’ve you been?” I asked. “Long time, no see.”

“I know, and it’s fantastic to see you again, even though you’re now a G-52,” Admiral Mathis replied. “Is this your friend here?”

“Yes. He and I met the day I crashed and later took out the al-Qaeda barrier.”

“Oh, that’s right. What branch were you in, sir?”

“I was in the Air Force,” Super Leo replied as he shook Admiral Mathis’s hand. “By coincidence, I crashed in the same area he did, though I’m certain he crashed first. Then we found the red, clear, and blue criptonitroglycerite—clear because there is no white—and that’s how we can do the star-spangled blast attacks we do now.” He demonstrated this by firing a blast into the air, though making sure he wasn’t aiming at anything, and the admiral took note at how the blast had three bars, a red, white, and blue bar, and stars of the same colors but not on the same bars.

“Does that kill on contact?” Admiral Mathis asked.

“No, but it does knock you out and leave you seeing stars in your eyes, literally.”

“I see. Well, I’m ever happy to see you both. I was hoping someone in the G-52s would show up, and to my delight, it was you.”

“What’s the crisis?”

“Some villainous someone has been hijacking the ship. Although we fought him off and got the ship home safely, he still ran away with the supplies we were delivering as imports from Japan. Hopefully this will be the last stash of them, as I hear America is going back to using only American-made products these days. I like that.”

“We are, and you can thank our colleague, T2, the TECHNO TIGER, for that. The craze all started with his drink, the Hip Solution, which protects everyone who drinks it forever from the hypnosis attacks of anybody, but emphasizing Bendraqi and the Glaswegian Devils. They are the big name threats on this world at the moment, but Bendraqi is a much bigger threat, even if he’s the absolute stupidest villain ever to live on the planet. Have you seen him lurking about? Do you have any evidence it was him?”

“I don’t think it was him. All I know is that the chief wasn’t very tall and he spoke with an accent that made it hard to understand him.”

“Then that means it has to be those devils. If it’s not, then we don’t know who it is. How he’d get away with the supplies?”

“He found the room they were in, loaded them onto his large log raft, and sailed off while the rest of us had to deal with the other goons. I even have a photo of him one of my sailors snapped for me.” He handed me the photo and I took a look at it. “Without this photo, I doubt we ever would have confirmed the suspect’s identity even if we didn’t know who it was. I told the sailor he would be commended for this.”

“This confirms it,” Super Leo replied after looking at it. “Those devils are at it again. Give me a moment, and I’ll contact the Cat of Steel about this. He’s actually the one in charge of the G-52s, and not Leo the Patriotic Lion as most people tend to think.”

“You have them both?”

“Yes, we do.”

“We are honored!”

“As are we to help you.” My best friend dialed Super C’s number on the communicator and updated him on everything that happened, also allowing Admiral Mathis to give some input. Throughout the conversation, we helped the admiral understand the purpose behind the devils and how Captain Cripton and his friends, Firefox and Warwolf, were the ones that knew the devils better than anybody.

Soon we all met together, the Captain and his friends included, and the admiral hummed “Rule, Britannia!” to himself as we flew off in search of the devil that carried the supplies on the raft. Warwolf took a detour to find all the other devils they fought off, and rounded them up using a large steel net he found lying around. Each of them were arguing over who was to be the new devil in charge in case their current leader didn’t make it with the raft, since they thought he had too much weight, only to have Warwolf shout at them, “There’s no need for that job!” Then he rounded them up and they grumbled all the way back to the prison they belonged in.

We found the lead devil in the meantime and noticed how he amazingly kept float with all those supplies the admiral mentioned spread about on the raft, but making no progress to get back to his H.Q. As soon as he spotted us, he knew he was sunk (no pun intended), but he wasn’t able to turn around due to the force of the ocean pushing against him. We felt that the best way to handle this, therefore, was as peacefully as possible, because the admiral and his troops had done their part by fighting the other devils off, so we didn’t bother firing any star-spangled blasts at the devil. Instead, Super C, Super Leo, and I flew down and used our powers to keep the waters of the sea under control, while the Captain and Firefox flew over to the devil and questioned how he did it, and he gave us his explanation.

“I knew all those courses I took in water displacement would come in handy,” he concluded, “but alas, another scheme gone to waste. You know we’ll be back, but for now, you got us. This plot wasn’t worth it, anyway; I can’t move anywhere past here.”

“Let us turn your raft around, although I’m taking you to jail,” Firefox replied, doing so. The Captain, meanwhile, took hold of the raft and moved it back to the harbor, setting it down. When all was said and down, the admiral had for the first time gotten to meet Super C and the UK’s thrilling three.

“There you are,” the Captain announced as he set the raft down while the rest of us landed. “All the stuff he stole is now safe and sound.”

“I can’t thank you and your friends enough, Captain Cripton,” Admiral Mathis replied. “I’m just glad everything was taken care of in a swift manner. That’s how I like justice served. And if you’re wondering, I’m Admiral Miles Mathis. I’m in charge of the unit Super Tom used to be in.”

“Just like how Super Slash used to serve under General Morton’s command, then?”

“Oh, yes. You don’t know how thrilled I was to see him again. I doubt we’ll ever have another one like him.” He gave me a pat on the back.

“Morton says the same thing about Super Slash, and even considers him the greatest that ever served since Douglas MacArthur.” Super C chuckled. “In that unit, he’s a legend.”

“Is he really?”

“You bet. The day you meet him will probably be a life-changing one for you.”

“It will, definitely. Everyone here on the U.S.S. Colorado has heard all the stories behind Super Slash. Personally, we wanted him to return as badly as everybody else did, I hope. I couldn’t believe he did what he did to begin with, but I wouldn’t be surprised if he were to do it again.”

“He’s tempted to but has promised not to. In return, the public has promised never to bother him with it or criticize him for it, because the 50 original protestors were did only did because Bendraqi hypnotized him. Since the introduction of T2’s Hip Solution, however, the number is dropping like crazy.”

“That’s good to hear. I’ve taken the drink, by the way, so I must be safe.”

“You’re safe no matter what.” The conversation continued, and it felt so good being able to chat with my former boss. The memories came back and I was able to recall them as if they happened yesterday. It was easy for my friends to see the similarities between the friendship between me and Admiral Mathis, and the one between Super Slash and General Morton. And the weather was perfect for it as well.

By the time we left, Admiral Mathis waved goodbye in the hopes he would see me again sometime soon, and we returned home to swap wardrobes for casual wear before reuniting at Maximum Mighty Melt, while the Captain and his friends returned home to the UK to do likewise.
