(sorry if my question is stupid) ive never been to a furry convention before so if you comission art there do you need to have printed out refs of your characters or do you just send it to the artist digitally?

Not stupid at all! A printed ref would be great, or if you have a USB flash drive with it some artists might have a computer
or use a QR code because almost everyone has a smart phone. So you could use a QR code to link to your ref sheet.
BUT REFS ARE GREAT WE LOVE THEM
